Alaska Forum on the Environment Youth, in cooperation with the Green Star Program, collected over 650 pairs of used athletic shoes (thats 525 pounds!) for recycling. This volunteer effort diverted a substantial amount of material that would otherwise have ended up in an Alaskan landfill. Special thanks to the sponsors of the effort which includes: Lynden Transport, Worldwide Movers, REI, ConocoPhillips, BP, NRC, Dena'ina Convention Center, Skinny Raven, Alaska Youth for Environmental Action, Alaska Geographic and the Alaska Museum at Rasmuson Center.
