We are encouraging all Alaskan youth to join us for the 12th Alaska Forum on the Environment, February 8 – 12, 2010, at the Denaʼina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage.
The largest environmental conference in Alaska brings together rural and urban, industry and private, agency and public, students and scholars, youth and elders from around the world. With a diverse agenda, the conference offers more than 150 presenters, 80 sessions and 4 special keynote events. Session topics include climate change, energy and alternative energy options, invasive species, fish and wildlife habitat, arctic development, environmental justice and many more.
The Alaska Forum on the Environment provides unique opportunities to access
the wide range of attendees and presenters that typically attend. Youth and
young adult participants will be able to interact with potential mentors and peers,
sharing experiences, asking questions, and learning more. Participants will be
encouraged to build linkages with resources represented at the conference that
can help them become more engaged in issues important in their own
communities.
Resources will be made available to help groups find
funds to cover travel and lodging costs. Special registration fees will be
established for youth and young adults participants, and in some cases these
cost may be waived.
More information on the agenda and special events will be made available on this web site as it becomes available. Questions may be directed to Meg Burgett at pnasb@uaa.alaska.edu
Present your Project at the Largest Environmental Conference in Alaska!
The Alaska Forum on the Environment is looking for great youth-led environmental
projects to showcase at the 2010 conference, February 9th and 10th. Presentations will
provide conference participants with information on ongoing projects and encourage
them to incorporate youth and young adult resources into their own projects.
We are seeking nominations for projects that demonstrate the value of youth
participation. Up to 4 projects from around the state will be selected to present at this
year's AFE. Registration and conference fees for up to 3 representatives and an adult
partner will be reduced or waived and conference mentors will assist when needed with
locating travel and lodging funds and preparing presentations and visual aids.
Selected projects will represent a broad scope of issues and various roles for youth and
their adult partners. Representatives will include at least one adult partner – who must
also be a part of or advisor to the project.
To apply, or nominate a project from your community download and complete our application
